There is no frigate like a book

     To take us lands away

Nor any coursers like a page

     Of prancing poetry.

This traverse may the poorest take

     Without oppress of toll;

How frugal is the chariot

     That bears a human soul!

It’s Your Party

Since many are marking their country’s “birthday” in the US today, we wanted to ask: How do you celebrate yours? Are you all for a big bash, or more of a low-key birthday boy/girl?

Your probably not asking but my birthday happened 2 days ago. Yes, 2 days ago. Well, to be honest, I never told anyone when is my birthday. When that day came, I was so surprised when a lot people greeted me!

And at the end of the day, I was with my friends, we ate at McDonalds. We had fun.
So basically, I’m a low-key birthday girl.

Wrong Turns

It happened few weeks ago. Well, we did not actually got lost but it kinda felt like it.
So this is what happened:

We are here at a fast food restaurant in Pacita waiting for my other classmate, well,
we are going to UP Diliman (YEY). The four of us didn’t know exactly how to go there.
One of my classmates said that we should take a bus going to Fairview (I think), which is a faster route according to him. To be honest, I don’t know where is that all I know is what my mother told me, Bus to Cubao, then MRT to Quezon Ave. and lastly, the jeep to the UP campus. The weird thing is that I don’t know where is that! I don’t know how Cubao looks like. When should we take off the bus, when its Cubao or before or what.

Its already late in the morning so we had no choice but to ride a bus to Cubao. My classmate asked the conductor to tell us when its Cubao already and he did. We took off in a SM Hypermart. I have no idea where we were, neither do them. Luckily, Hermes helped us to find our way. We saw a bus going to Fairview and we hopped on. To cut it short, we arrived safe to UP Diliman, thanks to the god of travel!

Writing 101, Day Nine: Changing Moccasins — Point of View

The sun was shining brightly in the park. Leaves were falling everywhere.  I was wearing a beige khaki shorts, partnered with a simple bluish shirt.

I was with my lovely girlfriend with me, she’s as beautiful as the sun. Her hair have the colour of the leaves. Her eyes were blue as the ocean. Her lips so smooth and-

“‘Hey”

“uh-what?”

“I said let’s take a walk,” she pouted.

I was so lost with all the little things that I did not realise she’s already talking to me. I held up my hand to her and we started to walk.

Not far from were we are, I saw this old woman knitting a red sweater. She was smiling while she’s doing it. I remembered my grandmom who always makes my sweater when I was little. I still wear some sweater she made for me, and I kept all the sweaters she made me so I can give it to my future son or daughter, I can’t afford to throw them away, because she won’t be making any sweater again. Ever. I miss her so much.

I was taken aback from reality when my girlfriend wiped something on my face.

“It’s okay” she whispered.

The wind was whispering in my ears as I turn around and around. I saw him in the corner of my eyes, staring back at me. I stopped spinning and asked him, “You want to take a walk?”

In return, he just stared back at me. He must have thinking something else. I waved my hand in front of him, at last he noticed me

“uh-what?”

“I said let’s take a walk,” and I pouted.

He held up his hand while smiling and I took it. We started to walk around the park while he held my hand the whole time. I scanned the whole place and it was really beautiful. The trees were giving us shade from the sun which is really good. Not to mention the leaves falling from them.

I was so moved by this beautiful scenery and I didn’t realise that we stopped walking already. I was going to ask him why we stopped when I saw him staring at the old woman on the bench knitting some red sweater. A tear fell down on his cheek and I get my handkerchief to wipe it out.

“It’s okay”, I whispered.

I know he misses his grandmother, and I know he saw his grandmom to that old woman. I may not know what life he had with her but I certainly know one thing, she still is important to him.

I have been sitting here since 7 in the morning. My daughter have her baby boy last night. Since I love making sweaters and I decided I should make her baby something to wear.

I was about to finish my work when these two young couples walked pass by. They were holding each other’s hands while walking. I remember myself in them.

Before I get lost in my reminiscence, I finished the sweater. I gathered all my things and stood up. I was walking out of the park when I saw the couple again. They were so like us. I smiled in the thought and head back to the hospital.
